Intro
I have been seedfinding for nearly a year now. When I first started, I felt overwhelmed by it. There wasn’t really any good resources for seedfinding, getting tools to work is pain, and everything was confusing. This is exactly why I am starting this blog series, to be the resource for getting started with seedfinding. I hope you find this useful and not overwhelming!
Seedfinding VS. Seedcracking
I will kick off this series by telling you a Very Important Point: The most common misconception about seedfinding I seen in beginners is that they want to “crack” their seeds using seedfinding tools.
There’s a few reasons that this will not work:
TL;DR: You can’t. You just can’t. Don’t even think about trying.
- Seedfinding tools are just too slow. Seedcracking tools can filter through all of the seeds in Minecraft in mere seconds on any computer, whilst seedfinding tool won’t for the rest of your life. (And your children’s lives as well.)
- There’s too much seeds in Minecraft. There’s 264 seeds. (Otherwisely known as eighteen quintillion, four hundred forty-six quadrillion, seven hundred forty-four trillion, seventy-three billion, seven hundred nine million, five hundred fifty-one thousand, six hundred sixteen) If you checked one seed by hand, every second, without rest, it will take you 42 times the current age of the universe to finish.
- We need specific information to crack a seed. A Minecraft seed is composed of 64 bits. You must get back all of these bits to find a seed. Things seedfinding programs can filter like biomes and structures, are bad at giving bits (structures are good bit sources, but you need more info than a seedfinding program can filter to get the bits.)
- In seedcracking we find the seed of a world that we know exists. In seedfinding we find seeds that we may be not sure exists. This means the two topics have 2 different aims and you must not confuse them!
Tools
The sheer number of seeds in Minecraft demonstrates that we need tools for seedfinding. The main tool I use is called Cubiomes Viewer. It is very versatile, easy to use, and is fast enough for most requirements.
Pro tip: don’t listen to the people saying you must know how to code to do seedfinding. You do need code to do things faster or search for seeds that Cubiomes Viewer can’t find. I have never needed to code in my seedfinding career (unless I steal other’s code [thank you, estradying]).
!! WARNING !!: DO NOT TRUST CUBIOMES.COM!!! IT IS A VIBECODED, COOKIE CUTTER, GARBAGE QUALITY, SCAMSITE, WITH SEO STUFFING!!!! I WILL NOT BE SURPRISED IF THE AUTHOR CHANGE THE DOWNLOAD LINK TO MALWARE!!!! D-O-N-T-U-S-E-I-T!!!!!!
Phew, I need to stop venting
We will learn to install and use it in the next post.
